Overview

A new visual design system for Dolby Digital, bringing the visual representation of sound to life.

Mystery Box brought the Dolby Atmos technology to life through a system of spheres, visualising the physics of sound waves for Dolby Digital.

Dolby is synonymous with sophisticated sound technologies for cinemas and home theaters. As the company launched Dolby Atmos, their latest sound technology, and Dolby Vision, their latest innovation and first foray into imaging technology, Mystery Box developed a visual system that integrates both brands and establishes a new era in Dolby’s brand identity.

Problem

The Challenge

To create an iconic brand language for Dolby Digital, in order to communicate each line of the Dolby Atmos business. Our challenge was to establish a brand language focusing on the visual representation of sound, whilst bringing world class audio to life.

Thinking

The Approach

Mystery Box crafted a globally recognisable brand iconography through a system of spheres. The series of six digital illustrations represent the physics of sound waves for each line of the business; Home, Mobile, Rave and Cinema.

Result

The Experience

The spheres represent a visual design system, establishing a new era in Dolby's brand identity. Each illustration provides a succinct, legible explanation of the technology’s 360° sound system in different surroundings, providing an attractive and easily digestible solution for a complex product.
